Pearl Gourami (Trichopodus leerii) AKA Mosaic Gourami, Lace Gourami, Diamond Gourami, Leeri Gourami Found in Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo, and Thailand in the acidic waters of lowland swamps close to the sea. All Pearl Gourami found in the trade are captive bred, they are on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. Omnivorous labyrinth fish, will swim to the surface for breaths of air, can also vocalize with growling or croaking noises. A heavily planted tank including floaters with a dark substrate will make them feel most comfortable and at home. Feed a varied diet of pellets, freeze dried and frozen foods. They will also benefit from vegetables such as lettuce, cooked and peeled peas or spinach. Live foods like blackworms, brine shrimp, and glass worms will be accepted as well.
